The Jack Smith Engineering and Robotics Program at ECMS is pleased to announce
its first course offering. Mr. Fred Stillwell teachs STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics) connection
classes. Two classes will be offered at each grade level. New classes with new activities and labs will form every
nine week period. Students are given the opportunity to apply their math and science skills in an interesting and
relevant hands-on program. The curriculum is derived from the math and science state performance standards for
each grade level. As East Cobb moves to become a performance based school, these hands-on enrichment activities are
a valuable resource. All students are invited to consider taking part in STEM class.
For the 2007-2008 school year, ECMS will be working more closely than ever
with Wheeler High School as they introduce their Engineering Academy. East Cobb will be working with both Wheeler and
the state to develop a middle school pre-engineering program.
ECMS is partnering with Georgia Tech in a grant proposal to the National
Science Foundation to investigate risk management of civil infrastructure. This continued alliance with Georgia Tech
gives our students access to world-class instructional methods.
